About Maria

When it comes to the right voice for your story -
she hopes you’ll
“never stop saying Maria”!
A professional working actress from the age of 16, Maria is a classically trained LA-based narrator with a conservatory acting degree from UCLA. She began her career playing Keanu Reeves girlfriend in a MTV commercial and has since appeared in over 45 films and TV shows, including Lucifer, Shameless and Grey’s Anatomy. She has recorded over 100 audiobook titles, working with publishers including Brilliance, Simon and Schuster, Podium, Dreamscape, Harper Collins and Macmillan.
Maria is a respected acting coach and teacher, with a skill for sharing complex concepts in challenging non-fiction - bringing an engaging air of expertise to topics ranging from dance (in all its forms), hiking, Alzheimer’s care, and self-help. Her experience in youth arts gives her a passion and perspective for captivating YA audiences.

Her years spent in an elite writer’s group (surrounded by Emmy award-winning storytellers), and with her acclaimed novelist husband give her an affinity for capturing the author’s intent and for in-depth character analysis. Maria’s musical ear and love of travel have afforded her a knack with accents and dialects. She is particularly drawn to historical fiction where she can throw herself into the research necessary.
She is also a fan of narrating paranormal, thrillers, women’s fic, and second-chance love, and as a proud LGBTQ+ parent, she also loves to inhabit the HEA of a scintillating sapphic romance. A lifelong animal advocate, Maria has helped to rescue furry friends from pitbulls to the real-life displaced tigers from hit documentary Tiger King!

Maria McCann's Spanish-accented narration sets the tone for this sweeping novel about an outbreak of a plague causing amnesia in an unnamed Latin American country. McCann employs a dramatic tone to tell the story of Angustias and her husband, who lose their infant sons while fleeing for a better life. As they search for a place to bury them, they meet larger-than-life Visitación Salazar, who runs a cemetery in the town of Mezquite. McCann utilizes varied voices to differentiate the male and female characters. The author's short, impactful sentences and McCann's expressive narration drive home the difficult story, which captures the plight of the migrant. A translator's note at the end provides helpful context.
